Global Soccer: Expats' Love for the Game Helps Them Rebuild Their Lives After Katrina

LONDON — If there is true addiction toward men’s soccer in the United States, it is probably strongest among the ex-patriate community. That strength is manifested in New Orleans, La., where Finn McCool’s FC is preparing to play a match that is as much a celebration of life as it is of the sport.

Finn McCool’s is a Sunday morning pub team. It was formed 10 years ago, just months before Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans. After the storm, its players were scattered thousands of miles apart, but they were drawn back, not only to rebuild their lives and their homes, but to rebuild their pub and their team.
