Gignac powers Tigres into Liguilla semifinals after crushing Monterrey

Andre-Pierre Gignac scored twice as Tigres secured their very first Liguilla victory over Monterrey, crushing their rivals 6-1 on aggregate.

Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti’s men arrived to this game with a comfortable 4-1 lead to their name, with Monterrey needing three goals to have any chance of progressing to the semifinals stage.

Rayados emerged as the better side from the opening whistle, but in truth struggled to find rhythm against a Tigres side happy to absorb pressure and hit on the counter.

When the game looked to be heading goalless at the break, Andre-Pierre Gignac, scorer of two goals in the first leg, made his presence known by scoring a marvelous free kick past Hugo Gonzalez.
