RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- The former president of the Brazilian soccer confederation is facing corruption charges related to $147 million in transfers from his bank accounts as he led the preparations for the 2014 World Cup.
Local newsmagazine Epoca reported that Brazil's Federal Police had investigated Ricardo Teixeira and in January recommended to federal prosecutors that he be charged for corruption crimes. The magazine says it has seen the police document.
Federal prosecutor spokesman Marcelo Del Negri early Tuesday confirmed the investigation, but says it's sealed and could give no details. Police didn't return calls for comment.
