FAI in favour of expanded World Cup

The association, which presides over the national teams of the Republic of Ireland, would back the increase in participation

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) would be supportive of the expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams, according to the association's Chief Executive John Delaney.

On January 10, FIFA voted unanimously in favour of increasing the number of teams participating in the tournament from 32 to 48 in 2026 and Delaney revealed that the FAI would be in favour of the change.
