Crew 2, N.Y.C.F.C. 1: New York City F.C. Stumbles as Crew Move Into Second

Justin Meram scored in the 83rd minute, and the Columbus Crew beat New York City F.C., 2-1, at Yankee Stadium on Saturday to move into second place in the Eastern Conference.

The Crew (11-8-8) capitalized on a takeaway near midfield, leading to an opening for Meram up the left side. His shot rolled through a couple of defenders and bounced home off the inside of the far post.

Columbus’s Federico Higuain opened the scoring with a hard-bouncing header off Wil Trapp’s corner in the 10th minute.

Andrew Jacobson tied it for New York City F.C. in the 20th minute with a blast from far outside the box.
