Club América crowned Copa MX champions on Aguilera penalty

Emanuel Aguilera scored a penalty in the first half as Club América beat FC Juárez 1-0 to win their first Copa MX title in more than 45 years.

Las Águilas went on the front foot early when a Renato Ibarra chance floated just wide of Ivan Vazquez’s goal.

Juárez, who arrived to this game as the surprise team of the tournament, then came very close to stunning América when Leandro Carrijo attempted an acrobatic volley from inside the box.

Moments later, Lucas tried his luck from distance, giving Las Águilas another early warning that they weren’t going to be an easy team.
