Chelsea have sacked so many managers over the years that at one point it began to feel as though the club's media department had fallen into the habit of simply inserting a new name into the same old official statement template.
The last time the club went the extra mile to explain a managerial change to supporters was in September 2007. Jose Mourinho had just departed Stamford Bridge for the first time under a cloud of bitter acrimony and with heartbroken fans in uproar, Chelsea released an open letter.
"Early this morning we announced that Chelsea and Jose Mourinho had agreed to part company by mutual consent," it read.
