Bayern Munich’s Uli Hoeness says Hansi Flick and Barcelona were indeed left surprised by Nico Williams’ decision to extend his contract at Athletic Club because they virtually had an agreement with the Spain star.
Athletic announced on Friday that Williams had penned a long-term deal with the club, ending weeks of speculation that he was going to sign for Barcelona.
The Catalans are said to have been left shocked and angry by the decision, and Hoeness says the news also took Bayern by surprise.
“We all were. I’m also in close contact with Hansi Flick, who’s currently on vacation at Tegernsee,” he said, via Sky Sport Germany.
