Barcelona and Spain star Aitana Bonmati has been hospitalised with viral meningitis ahead of the start of Euro 2025.
The tournament is due to kick off on Wednesday in Switzerland, with Spain’s first match the following day against Portugal.
Ahead of the start, Aitana has posted an update on social media and shared an image of herself watching Spain’s warm-up game with Japan from her hospital bed.
The RFEF subsequently confirmed in a statement that Aitana missed the match as she had been taken into hospital for treatment.

Manager Montse Tome has since offered a reassuring update on her current health.
