Arsenal denies Giroud was knocked unconscious

The Frenchman appeared to be left dazed by a clash of heads with West Ham defender James Tomkins, but was left on the pitch after being assessed by Gunners medical staff.

Arsenal has dismissed suggestions that Olivier Giroud was knocked unconscious during Sunday's Premier League shock opening-day defeat to West Ham.

The France striker clashed heads with James Tomkins 16 minutes from time at the Emirates Stadium, sparking fears of having sustained a serious injury as he lay motionless on his back before teammate Nacho Monreal and a cluster of players helped to roll him on to his side.
