American prospect Lederman leaving Barcelona for U.S. U-17 program

A 15 year-old prospect is coming back to the states after he was ineligible to play in games with Barca's youth squad.

American prospect Ben Lederman is leaving Barcelona's youth academy to join the U.S. Under-17 residency program, Goal's Ives Galarcep has learned.

The 15-year-old moved to Spain with his family in 2011 hoping to become the first American to play for the Catalan club, but he has been unable to play in an official game for the youth team for over a year due a ban handed to Barca for illegal international transfers.

FIFA rules state youth players cannot register with a team in a country other than their own until they are 18, with three exceptions.
