Abby Wambach says her DUI in April made her wake up to years of alcohol and prescription drug abuse.
Retired U.S. national team star Abby Wambach told The Associated Press that her arrest in April for driving under the influence "was one of the best things that has ever happened to me."
In "Forward," a memoir to be released Tuesday, Wambach details her longtime dependency on alcohol and prescription drugs such as Vicodin, Ambien and Adderall.
"That night getting arrested was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Because if I don't get so publicly shamed and publicly humiliated, I don't think I wake up," she said, in an interview with the AP.
