With three games left, SMU knows it controls its destiny in the American Conference West

UNIVERSITY PARK -- After SMU's 31-24 loss to Central Florida Saturday night, head coach Chad Morris saw a dejected locker room. The Mustangs had several chances to change the outcome of the game on offense and defense and get a signature win against a top-20 opponent. None of those chances led to the upset, though.

"That one hurt," senior defensive end Justin Lawler said Tuesday.

The loss to UCF dropped SMU to third place in the American Conference's West Division, a half game behind Houston and 1.
