Wild final sequence gives SMU the win it desperately needed heading into bowl season

UNIVERSITY PARK -- When SMU head coach Chad Morris sat down for his postgame press conference Saturday, he had one thing left to say.

"Wow."

He repeated it a few more times, and who could blame him? His team had just beat Tulane 41-38 on a controversial referee's decision on the final play from scrimmage. There was a lot to process.

But first, a quick retelling of how we got to the final, wacky play.

A fourth-down sack by defensive end Justin Lawler gave SMU the ball back on downs with 7:06 to play in the fourth quarter.
