UNIVERSITY PARK -- When Ben Emelogu was growing up in Grand Prairie, there wasn't a lot of talk around the city when the SMU-TCU basketball matchup rolled around. It was played almost every year, but the meeting of the two crosstown rivals just didn't move the needle in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Things are a little different now ahead of the 2017-18 edition of the rivalry, to be played Tuesday night at Schollmaier Arena. TCU moved up to No. 20 in the AP poll on Monday while SMU received 15 votes after a win over No. 14 USC on Saturday.
