UNIVERSITY PARK -- SMU's run game had a strong showing against Stephen F. Austin. The Mustangs averaged 5.1 yards per carry for 243 yards and three touchdowns in the 58-14 win.
It was the first game back for Xavier Jones. The sophomore running back missed almost all of 2016 with a hamstring injury that earned him a medical redshirt. Jones rushed 10 times for 39 yards.
"From a long layoff from last year, I think he had a good game. I think he'd be the first to tell you he wanted to do better on some things," offensive coordinator Joe Craddock said.
