UNIVERSITY PARK -- A day of spring practice is hardly enough time for proper evaluations on players, but SMU head coach Sonny Dykes liked what he saw from a couple of his quarterbacks on Wednesday.
While Ben Hicks remains the favorite to be the starting quarterback, D.J. Gillins looked much improved from last season, when he was trying to play his way back into shape after a knee injury kept him out of spring ball. Gillins looked nimble on his feet and was able to get outside the pocket and make plays easily.

"It's good to have him back healthy," Dykes said of the former Wisconsin quarterback.
