SMU will be down a defender next week due to targeting call, plus more notes from win vs. UConn

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The SMU football team may be one victory away from bowl eligibility, but the Mustangs will be down at least one defender in its first attempt to get there.

SMU defensive tackle Demerick Gary was called for targeting after a hit on UConn quarterback David Pindell early in the third quarter of Saturday's 62-50 win. By rule, the junior was ejected from the game and will have to sit out the first half of the Mustangs' game with Memphis next weekend.

-- SMU cornerback Jordan Wyatt and safety Rodney Clemons both left the game with injuries and did not return.
