SMU stumbles vs. Memphis yet again, misses opportunities in 28-18 loss

UNIVERSITY PARK - SMU stumbled again on Friday night at the sight of Memphis.

The Mustangs lost their fifth consecutive game to the Tigers, falling 28-18 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. At least this one was close into the fourth quarter. In the previous four losses, SMU was outscored 228-62.

The loss damaged SMU’s chances of winning the American Athletic Conference West. The Mustangs (5-6, 4-3 AAC) can become bowl-eligible by closing the regular season with a win at Tulsa.

SMU’s defense played gallantly against a team that began play ranked sixth among FBS schools for points per game at 44.
