SMU quarterback Matt Davis lost for the season with torn ACL; freshman Ben Hicks takes over as starter

SMU suffered a major blow with senior quarterback Matt Davis being lost for the season because of a knee injury suffered in the opener, coach Chad Morris said.

Davis, a senior from Houston, led the Mustangs in passing and rushing the last two seasons. He 246 yards and two touchdowns in the 34-21 victory over UNT, throwing for 155 yards and two TDs and rushing for 91 yards.
