For SMU, the biggest motivator is to get a win on Senior Day, the final time that seniors like Justin Lawler, Evan Brown, Anthony Rhone and even junior Courtland Sutton will play at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. SMU also needs a win to end its three-game losing streak. No one wants to back into bowl season on a long skid, and that's what SMU is at risk of against the Green Wave.
As for Tulane, the visitors are a win away from bowl eligibility for the first time since 2013.
