The first two seasons of the Chad Morris era at SMU have not resulted in a bowl game, but the program appears to be building towards that.
SMU finished 2-10 and 5-7 the last two seasons. The offense struggled to find any kind of consistency while the defense was routinely burned in the run and pass game, despite gaudy interception numbers in 2016.
SMU believes this is the year that it breaks through. There is more depth around the roster than there has been since the program's last trip to a bowl game in 2012. Quarterback Ben Hicks is a sophomore with 11 starts under his belt and a lot of weapons at his disposal, most notably receiver Courtland Sutton.
