New SMU head coach Sonny Dykes praised SMU's history and his memories of watching the program play during his childhood in a statement announcing his hire on the Hilltop Monday evening.
"I can't tell you how excited I am to be introduced as the Head Coach at SMU. This is home and this is a program I grew up watching. I watched Mustang legends compete and I could always see myself putting on that iconic pony. Today, I'm proud to do just that," said Dykes, who was born in Big Spring and grew up in Lubbock during SMU's Pony Express teams during the early 1980s.
