National Writer: SMU has talent to reach NCAA Tournament

Larry Brown is no longer barking orders from the bench, but SMU is still projected to make some noise this season.

The Mustangs return a handful of talented players, and new head coach Tim Jankovich is already familiar the talent on the squad -- he served as Brown's associate head coach.

SMU finished 25-5 last season, but missed the NCAA Tournament due to multiple infractions. However, NBC Sports' Scott Phillips believes the Mustangs can be a threat to reach the big dance not only this season but for years to come.

"Brown might have handed the keys to Tim Jankovich, but the Mustangs still have plenty of firepower," Phillips wrote.
