Mel Kiper Jr. on potential fits for SMU's Courtland Sutton in the NFL draft

When ESPN.com expert Mel Kiper Jr. released his latest NFL mock draft last week, he excluded former SMU receiver Courtland Sutton from his projections for the 32 first-round picks.

Sutton, who finished his SMU career with 195 catches for 3,220 yards and 31 touchdowns in three seasons, has been projected anywhere from the middle of the first round to the beginning of the second. For Kiper, he felt that Sutton's lack of a dominant performance against an elite corner hurt his draft stock.

"I kept waiting for Sutton to have that breakout game against a good-looking corner and just exploit that corner and make plays," Kiper explained on a conference call.
