MEMPHIS - You don't have to be some kind of football genius to figure this out, but it's really hard to win a ball game when your defense can't stop the other team from scoring.
This truism was on full display during SMU's 66-45 loss to Memphis on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs had finally solved the Memphis defense, a riddle that held SMU to seven points in the last two meetings between the teams. SMU drove 75 yards on the first drive of the game for a reaching touchdown from Courtland Sutton and a Jordan Wyatt interception on Memphis' first drive set up SMU for a field goal and a 10-0 lead.
