SMU athletic director Rick Hart can sympathize with his basketball players, coaches and fans going all the way back to last season.

Yes, Hart is counting the end of last season, when SMU lost nine of its last 11 games, as well as this season. The Mustangs (14-16) face Tulsa (18-13) in the first round of the American Athletic tournament Thursday in Memphis. SMU won the only regular-season meeting 77-57 at Moody Coliseum on Jan. 12.
