How SMU plans to divvy up carries between running backs Braeden West, Xavier Jones

UNIVERSITY PARK -- SMU returns 1,000-yard rusher Braeden West to its offensive backfield in 2017. He won't be a lone threat back there.

Sophomore running back Xavier Jones returns to the field after a medical redshirt in 2016. He had just 15 snaps last season but average 9.3 yards per carry. SMU head coach Chad Morris sees Jones combining with West for a thunder-lightening dynamic in the backfield.

Then there's sophomore back Ke"mon Freeman, who rushed for 651 yards and four touchdowns last season. Morris plans to travel true freshman Kayce Medlock, too, though it's possible that he will still redshirt.
