How SMU is trying to solve the puzzle of the Memphis defense

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Chad Morris came to SMU with a reputation for offensive intellect. From his time as a Texas high school football coach to his position as Clemson's offensive coordinator, this was the side of the ball that earned him the largest annual salary for any head coach outside of the Power Five.

This makes SMU's last two performances against Memphis, in which the Mustangs scored a total of seven points, a horse-sized pill for the SMU head coach to swallow.

Morris bitterly describes the 63-0 loss to Memphis in 2015 as "an absolute travesty." SMU gained a total of 97 yards and converted only two of its 18 third-down attempts.
