How SMU is trying to end its recent streak of sluggish first halves

UNIVERSITY PARK -- If you looked only at the second-half stats from SMU's 43-40 loss to Navy, you would think the Mustangs left Annapolis with an easy win.

SMU outscored the Midshipmen 29-9 in the final two quarters. The Ponies gained 49 more yards than Navy, averaged 3.2 more yards per play and held the Midshipmen to a 44.4-percent conversion rate on third down.

The issue is, the Mustangs were not the same team in the first half, when Navy led 34-11 and rushed for 357 yards. It's a trend that head coach Chad Morris has noticed about his team in the last month.
