Former SMU linebacker Blake Carlisle died on Wednesday, a source confirmed. The team found out about Carlisle's passing after practice Wednesday evening. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Carlisle signed a letter of intent to play at SMU out of Dickinson High School in 2016. He enrolled at SMU for his redshirt freshman season but was not on the 2017 roster or enrolled in classes this semester.
Carlisle's former teammates took to Twitter to express their sorrow at his passing.
"I remember sitting in class just quoting movie lines laughing [with you]. Bro lit up any room he was in," wrote SMU offensive lineman Kadarius Smith, a member of Carlisle's signing class.
