The NBA season got off to an upsetting start on Tuesday when Celtics forward Gordon Hayward broke his ankle while coming down after an alley-oop attempt during Boston's season-opening loss to Cleveland. The injury left teammates, opponents and fans alike shaken by its graphic nature and Hayward had surgery to repair the injury on Wednesday.
Before play began again between the Celtics and Cavaliers, Boston's players and coaches gathered at the bench. There, rookie and former SMU forward Semi Ojeleye led the team in a group prayer.
"Semi led us through a prayer for Gordon," Jaylen Brown told reporters after the game, including ESPN's Chris Forsberg.
