Even after blowout win over SFA, SMU's quarterback for 2017 is still to be determined

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Let's be honest, we knew SMU's 58-14 win over Stephen F. Austin was coming. This was a game that SMU paid the FCS opponent to play -- an easy non-conference win for the Mustangs, some athletic department funding for the Lumberjacks.

What gave the game significance was the mystery surrounding SMU's quarterback situation. Head coach Chad Morris refrained from naming a starter before the game. The depth chart released Tuesday named returning starter Ben Hicks and transfer Rafe Peavey and D.J. Gillins as equal candidates for the job.

Morris kept open the possibility of playing all three against SFA.
