Can SMU win the Heisman 70 years after Doak Walker? Here's the Mustang with the best chance

Let's clear one thing up really quickly: This is not a story that declares that an SMU player will win, or even be seriously considered for, the Heisman Trophy, the award given annually to college football's best player. No Mustang has won the award since 1948, when Doak Walker took home the honor, and that streak is not likely to end on the 70th anniversary of Walker's achievement.

That all being said, if you had to choose an SMU player to win the Heisman this season, the most logical candidate is running back Xavier Jones.

The rising-junior put together some pretty stellar numbers as a sophomore, especially considering he was returning from a hamstring injury that cost him most of 2016.
