SMU's season opener against North Texas on Sept. 1 is quickly approaching, and there's plenty to talk about before then.

Here are five key storylines for SMU fans to watch for in 2018.

Replacing Courtland Sutton and Trey Quinn

Having to replace one 1000-yard receiver is difficult enough, let alone two. Now that Courtland Sutton and Trey Quinn have found new NFL homes with the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins respectively, head coach Sonny Dykes has to find players who can replace 2,300+ receiving yards worth of production. An expanded role for James Proche will help, but won't entirely make up the difference.
