Before Dan Hurley was a coach at Rhode Island, Wagner, Rutgers and St. Benedict's Prep, before he was a standout player at Seton Hall, he was a St. Anthony Friar. Before all that and to this day, he was legendary coach Bob Hurley’s son. With St. Anthony’s fate hanging in the balance due to financial difficulties, Dan Hurley gave NJ Advance Media this tribute to St. Anthony and his father’s work.
St. Anthony raised me.
I didn’t have daycare. I had St. Anthony basketball practice. I didn’t have a babysitter. I had my dad, who was my coach — running my brother Bobby and I though drills with the varsity team as 7-year-olds at White Eagle Hall.
