Coming into Friday afternoon’s Big East opener against Butler, the Pirates (14-13, 0-1) were swinging some hot bats and riding high off a nine-run outburst in their last game against Wagner. However, Butler starter Jeff Schank had something to say about that as his performance led the Bulldogs (20-8, 1-0) to a 6-2 victory.
The lefty entered the day with a 1.12 ERA and turned in another strong performance, allowing only one run over eight innings while striking out nine.

It was a pitcher’s duel to start things off, as Seton Hall starter Zach Prendergast matched zeroes with Schank through the first three and a half innings.
