Former Pirate Herb Pope charged with bank robbery

Onetime Seton Hall men’s basketball player Herb Pope has been charged with robbing a bank last month in Sewickley, Pa.

The news was first reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

A native of Aliquippa, Pa., Pope and another man – Tyler Bridges – were allegedly armed with handguns when they stole more than $3,500 from Sewickley Savings Bank on Feb. 12, according to an Allegheny County Police criminal complaint cited by the Post-Gazette. Pope will head to trial facing charges of robbery, conspiracy, reckless endangerment and a firearms violation.

Upon searching the home of Bridges, investigators reportedly found two handguns, a black ski mask, black gloves and some of the stolen money, which was identified by the serial numbers.
