In just his first year with the program, pitcher Cullen Dana (Montgomery, NY) had a big impact on the Pirates as a starting pitcher, and was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team on Wednesday following his successful season.Last year, Shane McCarthy was the impact starting pitcher as a freshman. Dana took on that role this year, leading the team in wins (7) and sitting in fourth place in strikeouts (66). He also allowed just 52 hits in 72 innings pitched, with a miniscule .201 opposing batting average.
Dana’s seven wins were good enough for second in the Big East, and he finished top-10 in strikeouts and earned run average.
