The LSU Tigers have generated national attention this season despite a mediocre 18-13 record thanks to the presence of superstar Ben Simmons. However, Simmons has recently made headlines for reasons beyond his basketball abilities.
Glenn Guilbeau of USA Today noted Monday that the freshman forward did not start the 81-65 loss to Tennessee on Feb. 20 because of academic reasons. What’s more, Simmons didn’t even earn a 2.0 grade-point average and was not included as one of the 15 finalists for the Wooden Award.
Guilbeau shared Simmons’ thoughts Monday on the academic side of being a student-athlete in the spotlight:
I think it was just little things like missing a couple of classes and things like that.
