Stefan Frei made a significant positive step toward making his return ahead of Thursday’s decisive Western Conference finals match. The Seattle Sounders goalkeeper, who missed the first leg with a hamstring injury, was able to fully train on Wednesday.
“Stefan Frei is a tough kid and he will play if he’s ready,” Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer told the media. “He looked very sharp in training today.”
Assuming Frei is available, he’ll have a chance to go into the MLS record books. He carries a personal playoff shutout streak of 467 minutes, seven minutes shy of the record Kevin Hartman set with the LA Galaxy and Kansas City Wizards from 2005-07.
