The Seattle Sounders unveiled what might be their boldest — and almost certainly their most thoughtful — kit to date on Thursday. The “The Jimi Hendrix Kit” isn’t just undeniably unique from a visual perspective, but it also has an interesting backstory and will help raise money for charitable foundations.
On first glance, there’s clearly a lot going on. The swirling psychedelic pattern and pops of purple, orange and yellow are a combination previously unseen on a soccer kit and are all references to Hendrix’s distinct style. His signature occupies the jock tag, and his song lyrics across the neck tape, effectively complete the reference and the design was done with the approval of the Seattle music icon’s estate.
