We know the Seattle Sounders will spend at least some of their 2017 preseason in Tucson. We’ve now learned the team will also head East to take part in the 2017 Carolina Challenge Cup. This will be the second time the Sounders play in this preseason tournament.
The thirteenth incarnation of the Cup will include four teams: Seattle Sounders, Columbus Crew, Charleston Battery and Atlanta United. The tournament marks Columbus’ fourth appearance, the first since 2012, and in 2004 they took home the trophy by edging out D.C. United on goal differential.
As the host, Charleston has been involved every year and has finished second twice, 2008 and 2011.
