Sounders select Alex Roldan, younger brother of Cristian Roldan, in first round of MLS SuperDraft

There had been widespread speculation that, with the Sounders drafting late in the first round of Friday’s MLS SuperDraft, general manager Garth Lagerwey would take a bit of a genetic chance by foregoing his typical Stanford or Duke selections and instead go for the younger brother of midfielder Cristian Roldan.

That’s exactly what happened as the Sounders used their 22nd overall pick on Seattle University midfielder Alex Roldan, 20, who scored six goals and led the school with eight assists this past season. Roldan and his brother grew up separated by just a year in age in Pico Rivera, Calif.
