CHESTER, PA — On paper, facing the next-to-last place in the East Philadelphia Union should’ve been a great opportunity for the Sounders to pick up a needed three points to remain in the thick of the tight West playoff scramble.
Evidently, somebody forgot to give the Union that message. Philadelphia, which has been an effective team at home but terrible on the road, took command from the start. The Union got a goal from Marcus Epps in the 28th minute, then nursed the lead while Seattle tried to play catch-up.
It worked, as the Union kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 win Sunday, while costing the Sounders a chance to move up.
