Sounders forward Clint Dempsey has been voted Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters, the league announced Tuesday morning.
Dempsey scored twice in Seattle’s 3-1 victory over Portland on Sunday at CenturyLink Field. He shrugged off the miss of a good chance early in the second half and that of a penalty kick the weekend prior against Salt Lake to convert once from the spot and later from the run of play.
Dempsey has scored five goals in four games since the club parted ways with longtime coach Sigi Schmid and signed Uruguayan playmaker Nicolas Lodeiro, having only netted three all season up until that point.
