Sounders defender Chad Marshall has been named Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for September following a vote of the league’s fans, MLS announced Thursday morning in a release.
The three-time league Defender of the Year is a cornerstone of a Seattle defense that allowed an MLS-low three goals last month.
Marshall also scored his fourth goal of the season, good for third on the Sounders, with his game-winning header against Chicago on Sept. 28. He could have even had another in Los Angeles the previous weekend had Galaxy defender Jelle Van Damme not gotten the final touch on Marshall’s header into the back of the net.
