Don’t worry, you’re not experiencing déjà vu. The Seattle Sounders are indeed playing the Portland Timbers again for the third time in as many weeks. The Sounders won the first matchup in Portland in August, with the Timbers winning the second one in Seattle at the beginning of September.
With a win tonight the Sounders can retain their lead in the Western Conference. Depending on how results go in other matches tonight, there could be a scenario where a loss forces Portland out of a playoff position.
The Sounders have won their past three regular-season matches at Providence Park and will try to become the first team to win four straight road games in the history of this 45-year-old rivalry.
