Seattle Sounders heap praise on goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland, who earns clean sheet in first club start in win over LAFC

For the first time since June 30, 2018, and only the seventh time in the last eight seasons, someone other than Stefan Frei started in goal for the Seattle Sounders in an MLS regular season match.

Frei, who was injured on Wednesday at the San Jose Earthquakes and will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained knee, was replaced by another Stefan in backup Stefan Cleveland, who joined the Sounders from the Chicago Fire ahead of the 2020 season. The 26-year-old Dayton, Ohio, native entered Sunday with just five MLS matches to his name since joining the league in 2017.
