SEATTLE – The Seattle Sounders are going to the Western Conference Championship.
Clint Dempsey scored a dramatic go-ahead goal in the 56th minute and added the insurance tally in the 87th pacing Seattle to a 2-0 Western Conference semifinal victory over their Cascadia rival Vancouver Whitecaps at CenturyLink Field on Thursday night. The victory gave the Sounders a two-goal aggregate victory following the scoreless first leg that will see them through to the next round of the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs.
The match was nervy after Dempsey’s opener, as an equalizer and 1-1 draw would have sent the Whitecaps through on the away goal tie-breaker.
